Clapton CFC are yet to play their first competitive match yet they've already shifted over 2,000 shirts. In a weekend.
The one member one vote club that was formed earlier this year by supporters of Clapton Football Club has been getting ready for their first season at the 12th level of the football pyramid having secured a place in the Middlesex Counties League Division 1 Central East. Volunteers have been working hard to get the newly named 'Stray Dog' ground in Walthamstow ready, and had amassed a very credible 400 members.
One of the items that was carefully considered was the style of the away kit designed by Clapton CFC member Thom and voted in ahead of 15 other designs. Little did they know that over 3 days that kit would sell 2,000 times and hit the income target for the whole club for the season before a competitive ball had even been kicked.
Most of the demand has come from Spain, due to the design being based upon the colours of the International Brigades, who joined the fight against fascism in Spain during the Civil War of the late 1930s. Over 2,500 men and women from the UK and Ireland travelled to fight, with more than 500 dying for the cause.
