The Brakes Trust is the democratic independent supporters’ organisation for Leamington FC who currently play in the Vanorama National League North.
We work and live to the mantra of:
‘For the Fans.. For the Club.. For the Community.'
This is a short look back at a few of things we have done over the year.
For the Fans: the supporters are the spine of any football club and they are the spine of any trust too. The Brakes Trust’s most practical role with aiding supporters revolves around transport - with Leamington FC's stadium being around 3 miles out of the town and sitting in rolling countryside with no path to the stadium. The Trust plays a vital role in making the stadium accessible to those who do not drive or those who want to enjoy the match with a few drinks. We run a minibus shuttle service around the local area and makes getting to the match a little easier. We also run a minibus to every away game - again offering supporters access to matches.
This service has been aided by a free community minibus that was given to us by the government and also thanks to Phillips 66 (the club’s community sponsor) we have a free fuel card for supporters’ trips, community teams and other community groups.
For the Club: over the year the Brakes Trust has supported the club in different ways. We have taken on a large project to renew and update the club history and memorabilia that was up in the club house. The project is still on going and has just got bigger thanks to a play-off final victory and a Birmingham Senior Cup win last season! Trust board members are active in the running of community teams, volunteering on match days - including running the PA. We also make annual donations via the club’s Brakes Lottery and to fund our match day members’ draw.
For the Community: we have been able to offer use of our minibus to community groups- at a more affordable rate than commercial hire. It has been used by a local Duke of Edinburgh award group, a local care home and the affiliated Leamington Lions Ladies foot ball club use it for away travel and trips to watch England Ladies play.
By fundraising at community events we have been able to donate to Side by Side Theatre group who offer inclusive theatre to those with or without learning difficulties. We have also supported campaigns such as CRY, NHS Organ Donation and 'It takes balls to talk'.
It takes many hours to make these things happen and it’s often lack of people getting involved that stops us from doing more. So if any Brakes Trust members are reading this, don't be shy! Get involved!
