SD are delighted to announce this year’s Brian Lomax SD Cup will be contested between the first supporter owned club in the UK Enfield Town, who will be fielding an Under 23's team, and the youngest supporter owned club Clapton Community Football Club.
The Brian Lomax SD Cup is an annual invitational competition organised by Supporters Direct (SD) and held between community-owned football clubs to celebrate the role fans play in owning and supporting their own football clubs.
The cup is named after Brian Lomax in memory of the former SD Managing Director, considered to be the “founding father” of the Supporters Trust movement, who sadly passed away in 2015. His dedication to supporter’s rights and his tireless work for his beloved Northampton Town gave birth to the Supporters Trust movement that we all know today, and for which he was awarded an OBE in 2009.
Paul Millington from Enfield Town said "We are very pleased to host this years Brian Lomax SD Cup and look forward to meeting the latest fans owned club. Brian was an inspiration to us at the Town and laid the foundations for clubs like us and now Clapton CFC. I am sure with their following it won’t be long before they start to see success and importantly build a club their community can be proud of".
Robin Cowan from Clapton CFC said “We're absolutely delighted and honoured to be asked to play in the Brian Lomax Cup, and to get the opportunity to meet Enfield Town. The chance to face the original fan-owned club at their iconic ground, a club whose history we hope to emulate, seemed too good to be true. It's a fixture that has stuck out in our calendar since it was agreed and we can't wait to get over to EN1"
The fixture will be held at the Queen Elizabeth II Stadium, Donkey Lane, Enfield on Tuesday 7th August with a 7.30pm kickoff. Tickets can be purchased on the turnstiles.
