Supporters Direct have announced the details of their 2018 AGM.
This year’s AGM is highly significant for the future of the organisation as we are asking members to consider whether SD should form a single, new football supporters’ organisation with the Football Supporters’ Federation or continue as a distinct organisation focused on governance in sport.
Tom Greatrex, Chair of Supporters Direct, said:
"Since its formation, Supporters Direct has advised, assisted and enabled clubs across the country take ownership of their clubs, shareholdings and ensure board representation for supporters. Campaigning for better governance is not going to stop, because it is through making sport more open, transparent and responsive to the interests of communities and supporters that crisis situations can be averted.
"As a mutual, we are owned by our member Trusts - and collectively Trusts have a big decision to make later this summer about our future. Essentially, we need to decide whether the mission of Supporters Direct can best be protected, developed and enhanced as part of a new single supporters organisation covering a wider range of issues, or by continuing as a distinct body. There are risks and opportunities with both options, but as a democratic organisation, we want our members to make an informed decision. That is why we have set out detailed proposals now, for Trusts to consider, discuss and decide how they will vote at the end of July."
